Viaja a los lugares donde sus abuelos viajaron 40 años antes y hace las mismas fotos

Christian Carollo encontró por casualidad unas viejas fotos de su abuelo de cuando fue de vacaciones a Winchester Bay, Oregón, en los años 70. Curiosamente, a la siguiente semana es donde iba a viajar él, y se le ocurrió que sería bonito llevarse la foto y hacer una igual cuando llegara a la ciudad.

Comenzó a hacerlo en el año 2012 con la colaboración inestimable de su abuela, que fue quien le dio todas claves y fotos de sus viajes gracias a un diario que ella hizo de los mismos.

Main Street in Placerville, California | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother's travel journal on April 23rd, 1979: "Old Hangtown! And an unbelievable entrance -- without warning and a 90° curve! The steepest descent with wild curves into a very busy little town with a Main Street T -- ended smack from that entrance road. Groveland, California | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother's travel journal on April 23rd, 1979: "Groveland -- and the Iron Door Bar, 1849. And down towards a big lake 'New Don Pedro Reservoir' in steep and sharp curves." #pastpresentproject When I entered the Iron Door Saloon, which happens to be the oldest saloon in California, I came across a man sitting at the bar who told me he was in 11th grade the year my grandfather's photo was taken. He went on to tell me that he and a few seniors used to park behind the bar and enjoy a few beers inside the bar after school. I believed him. I also had the chance to show the current young owner what his bar looked like in 1979, which he loved. When I offered him a copy of the photograph, his face lit up and he declared "That's badass!" - -

Lower Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park | April 1979 & May 2015 Excerpt from my grandmother's travel journal on April 21st, 1979: "Yosemite Falls again, but from the south side drive, it shows the Upper Fall foaming into a big bowl of snow! Walked onto the brown wooden bridge over the crystal-clear shallow river with pussy willow bushes, mirrored in the water." #pastpresentproject -

Medora, North Dakota | September 1974 & June 2016 Excerpt from my grandmother's travel journal on September 5th, 1974: "Went into Medora for gas. Sunny and warm, all blue sky now. Town looks really Western -- wood buildings, Bad Land Saloon, the Bad Lands Cowboy (a tiny newspaper), the Rough Rider Hotel, and the post office & bank together in a small cabin." #pastpresentproject It was in the post office that I learned the fate of the tree in my grandfather's photograph. According to a bookstore owner on the opposite corner, a camper had struck the tree several years ago. The town tried to save it, but it had become so rotten that it was beyond saving. - -
